Government Programs & Agencies for Business

NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS): SBS provides direct assistance to business owners, fosters neighborhood development in commercial districts, and links employers to a skilled and qualified workforce:

NYC Business Solutions: a suite of services that help businesses start, operate and expand in New York City regardless of the size or stage of a business. NYC Business Solutions’ services can be accessed at NYC Business Solutions Centers located in the five boroughs.
           
NYC Business Express:  A website that offers business owners and entrepreneurs the information they need to open and operate a business as well as the opportunity to apply for permits, licenses and certifications and to check violation statuses online, all in one place.

New Business Acceleration Team (NBAT): A New York City initiative aimed at providing eligible new restaurants, bars, bakeries, and butcher shops a streamlined program to become "kitchen ready." NBAT transforms the way entrepreneurs deal with City government by working with new businesses to help open their doors more quickly, reduce costs, and provide jobs for the community.

NYC Office of Emergency Management - Ready NY for Business: A practical and actionable guide to help businesses protect their employees and enhance a company's ability to recover from financial loss resulting from business interruption or damage to facilities and inventory.

NYC Health Insurance Link (NYC HI Link): Source for helping New York City residents and small business owners find health insurance.

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC): The City’s primary engine for economic development, NYCEDC is charged with leveraging the City’s assets to drive growth, create jobs and improve quality of life.

Empire State Development (ESD): The mission of Empire State Development (ESD) is to promote business investment and growth that leads to job creation and prosperous communities across New York State. 

HealthyNY : HealthyNY is a State program designed to assist small business owners in providing their employees and their employees’ families with the health insurance.

NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA): A public benefit corporation aimed at helping New York meet its energy goals:  reducing energy consumption, promoting the use of renewable energy sources, and protecting the environment.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA): A federal agency which provides support and resources to small businesses and small-business owners across the nation.

 

Business Advocacy Organizations

Association for a Better New York (ABNY): an association dedicated to improving the quality of life for those that live and work in New York City and for those that visit.

Manhattan Chamber of Commerce: a membership organization comprised of a cross section of member businesses ranging from sole proprietors to large corporations and conglomerates, with the goal of advocating for, connecting and educating the Manhattan business community.

Partnership for New York City (PFNYC): a network of business leaders dedicated to enhancing the economy of the five boroughs of New York City and maintaining the city’s position as the center of world commerce, finance and innovation.

 

Quality of Life & Community Based Organizations

13th Precinct : The Flatiron District is served by the NYPD's 13th Precinct. The precinct's Community Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the 13th Precinct station house, 230 East 21st Street. We Are NoMAD: We Are NoMAD is the name taken by an upstart community of creative individuals, entrepreneurs and small business owners based in and around the northwest corner of the Flatiron district, an area recently known as NoMad.  The group seeks to connect like-minded individuals within the Flatiron community so as to foster collaboration and create opportunities while further promoting and establishing the area as a creative hub.

Gramercy Park Block Association: a community group dedicated to public safety, crime prevention, historic preservation, and quality-of-life issues in and around the Gramercy Park area.

Madison Square Park Conservancy:  A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to keeping historic Madison Square Park a bright, beautiful and active public park. The Conservancy raises the funds that support the parks horticulture, maintenance, security and a variety of free cultural programs.
